Episode 16 - Ditmas Middle School

With every experience I grow and learn for the next. I have passed on knowledge to others as my teachers have done for me hoping for a better world and society, this time we used a podcast.

This one is a follow up to a previous episode, in which Mark visited Ditmas Middle School in Brooklyn to engage Student Journalists in an in-depth conversation about Financial Literacy. In this episode, school curriculum expert, Dr. Rose Reissman discusses a special Financial Literacy learning project she and the students collaborated on. Dr. Reissman describes how a group of students conducted a review of online instructional resources and prepared and presented their findings in the format of a school podcast project.
A special Thank You to Dr. Reissman for all her work in developing and sharing this unique and powerful model of Financial Literacy Instruction.

Episode 15 - Ditmas Middle School

EPISODE 15: Student Investigative Journalism as Financial Literacy instruction – Ditmas Middle School, Brooklyn
In this episode Mark visited Ditmas Middle School in Brooklyn. There, he interviewed a group of student investigative journalists about their opinions on Personal  Finance and Entrepreneurship,  as well as how Financial Literacy can best fit into school programs and be taught.  The students interviewed him at the same session, asking about the state of Financial Literacy in our schools and his own opinions on finance and education.

Host/Correspondent's Bio – Mark Gura

Mark Gura has been an educator for over 3 decades. The former Director of Instructional Technology of the New York City Department of Education, he began his career as a teacher, spending 18 years in elementary and middle school classrooms in Harlem. More recently, he has taught graduate education courses at Fordham and Touro universities. Mr. Gura was a staff and curriculum developer for NYC’s central Division of Curriculum and Instruction before being recruited to develop and administer the first city-wide instructional technology program. He has written extensively on education for The NY Daily News, Converge and a variety of other education magazines, and has written and published 9 books on education. He is the co-producer/co-host of the popular The Teachers Podcast and Talking Financial Literacy Podcast. Mark lives and works in both the New York City area and Jupiter, Florida.
